WWB
WWB
The WWB project area is located in the eastern foothills of the Olympic Mountains. Purchased by Interfor in 2018, the WWB sale was commercially thinned the same year, and produced 3.4 MMBF for the Peninsula-based timber economy.
WWB was the first restoration thinning project that the Collaborative contributed to for the Olympic National Forest. The OFC’s long-term desired future condition was to obtain habitat characteristics that are found in fully functioning late successional/old growth forest.
The Collaborative has been leading the development of the monitoring program that will help us understand the impacts of restoration thinning treatments on the health of our forests. This project is part of the effort to understand those impacts, with 5-year remeasurements being done, in perpetuity.
Additionally, the collaborative and the ONF identified stewardship items to support aquatic ecosystems, including the replacement of 3 culverts, topping trees for snags and tree tipping for down wood in the South Fork Skokomish watershed.
